Aspirin

So Why Aspirin?
To prevent cardiovascular diseases
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Cerebrovascular disease
  • Peripheral artery disease
Acute myocardial infarction is a major cause of sudden cardiac death.  It has been shown that mortality will decrease when aspirin is taken prophylactically and during the hospital course.[3]  A report in Lancet supports the public use of aspirin in the face of a possible cardiac events.[4]

Aspirin has been used for over 100 years.
Its antiplatelet effects have been known for more than 30 years.  In 1980, a well-controlled study showed the positive effects of aspirin as an effective primary and secondary preventer in cardiac events.  Despite this data, the use of aspirin is still inappropriately low.[5]
