Stanford University Medical Center completed a retrospective chart review of 291 patients with an admission diagnosis of myocardial infarction.
- This data was collected from June 1, 1996 to May 30, 1997
- Of the 291 charts reviewed, 123 had the information needed
- The average age was 69, with 66% being men and 34% being women
- The ratio between emergency room admission and hospital transfer was 2.45:1
- 33 of the 123 (27%) patients were taking aspirin on admission
- 82% of these patients took a dose of 325mg/day
- All patients received aspirin on admission except those with known allergies (<3%)
