COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus

Surface Transmission
It is known that COVID-19 can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth. This can be when an infected person with the disease coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces and can survive outside of the body for several hours or days.

Studies are still being conducted to determine survival outside of the body and depending on the surface (i.e. cloth vs stainless steel) survival may be longer. EMS providers should treat all surfaces as being contaminated if a suspected COVID-19 carrier comes in contact with them. With surface contamination, people would come in contact with an infected object or surface, and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth.
