Ambulance Decontamination
Most of the hospitals have implemented decontamination procedures for EMS providers while on hospital property. For example, providing cleaning solutions, trash barrels and cloths for decontaminating surfaces. In the event hospitals are not allowing ambulance decontamination, materials should be kept in an exterior compartment or outside of the station for cleaning prior to pulling the apparatus back inside the stations. EMS providers should attempt to decontaminate any and all surfaces including commonly touched surfaces (door handles, railings) prior to entering the ambulance unprotected. Ensure that during decontamination, all ambulance doors are open. In the event the ambulance must be driven back to the station for further decontamination, providers should wear protective masks and close all compartments to the front cab.
