Heart Failure and the Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)

Cardiopulmonary Stress Test

This is a test that helps determine whether or not the heart and / or lungs are responsible for the symptoms of heart failure.  The heart failure candidate is placed on a treadmill as well as diagnostic equipment such as an EKG (cardiac monitor) machine.  Once on the treadmill the patient begins walking at a slowly accelerating pace.  Additional factors that evaluate heart failure with this procedure include age, gender and the efficiency of exercise.
