Device Mechanics
  • LVAD accepts blood from the left ventricle through one tube
    • This is known as the inflow cannula
  • Then pumps / propels blood back to the aorta through another tube
    • Known as the outflow cannula
  • Two external batteries supply the power for the pump
  • Paracorporeal cable connected through the abdomen
  • Works similar to a pump on a fire engine
