- LVAD accepts blood from the left ventricle through one tube
- This is known as the inflow cannula
- Then pumps / propels blood back to the aorta through another tube
- Known as the outflow cannula
- Two external batteries supply the power for the pump
- Paracorporeal cable connected through the abdomen
- Works similar to a pump on a fire engine
