It is important to have a basic understanding of the upper and lower airway anatomy.  There have been many instances of providers who are confused about the actual mechanisms of intranasal medications.  False statements such as, "they need to be breathing," "you have to bag it in," and "they have to say they took opiates first" need to be discarded.  Herein, we will discuss the basic upper and lower airway anatomy, and how it pertains to nasal medication administration.
