Right Coronary Artery Involvement

Patients experiencing an acute MI involving the right / proximal right coronary artery may have a different presentation.  Patients may have “dry dyspnea,” evidenced by clear lung sounds with shortness of breath, hypotension, jugular vein distention and bradycardia.  Consider the cause for the above named symptoms.  If the right side of the heart is damaged, we are going to have symptoms related to the right-sided functions of the heart.  The right ventricle pumps blood through the pulmonary artery to the lungs; as such, if the pump on that side is broken, patients may appear short of breath as a result of the lack of blood to the lungs.
