Stroke

Transient Ischemic Attack
The overall goal of treating a transient ischemic attack is to decrease the risk of a stroke. Treatment is aimed at treating risk factors (such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity) and lifestyle modification.

Antiplatelet therapy with aspirin or other agents (clopidogrel, dipyridamole, or newer agents), anticoagulant therapy (Coumadin) for atrial fibrillation and those with blood clots, statin therapy, antihypertensive medication and revascularization in the setting of significant carotid artery stenosis. A surgical procedure called a carotid endarterectomy can be performed to remove plaque and restore flow. [57]
