There are 3 main pathologic types of stroke, as defined by the CDC:
Ischemic strokes Strokes caused by blockage of an artery. About 87% of all strokes are ischemic
Hemorrhagic stroke Strokes caused by bleeding. About 13% of all strokes are hemorrhagic
Transient ischemic attack (TIA, also commonly referred to as a “mini-stroke”) When blood flow to the brain is only blocked for a short period of time, usually no more than 5 minutes. [61]
