Stroke

Los Angeles Motor Scale (LAMS)

The Los Angeles Motor Scale (LAMS): A measure to characterize stroke severity in the field.
This validated tool allows the rapid performance of a five-point stroke evaluation, identifying a score threshold associated with a large vessel occlusion

It measures facial smile or grimace, arm drift, and grip strength.

Facial Droop
            Absent 0
            Present +1

Arm drift
            Absent 0
            Drifts downward +1
            Falls rapidly +2

Grip Strength
            Normal 0
            Weak +1
            No grip +2

RESULTS:

0-1:  LVO less likely. Stroke is MINOR or MODERATE in severity

2-3:  LVO less likely. Stroke is MINOR or MODERATE in severity

4-5:  LVO likely. Stroke is SEVERE and requires acute treatment
