En Route Goals
Ensuring adequate airway, ventilation, oxygenation and supporting circulation are critically important. The initial assessment should be directed at optimizing these areas.
Guidelines for en route care
- Rapid transport to the closest stroke-ready facility.
- Follow established guidelines for bypassing hospitals without stroke care resources.
- Contact the receiving hospital prior to arrival.
- Measure and record glucose level.
- Assess and record blood pressure.
- Establish IV access based on level of training and protocols.
- Initiate cardiac monitoring. [69]
