Caveats for care en route include:
- Do not treat hypertension, but do monitor blood pressure en route.
- Do not administer dextrose containing fluids to patients who are not hypoglycemic.
- Avoid excess IV fluid administration.
- Keep oxygen saturation above 94% by use of supplemental oxygen.
- Assist ventilation, if required.
- Position patient in a comfortable position.
- Protect the airway and be aware of potential for aspiration.
- Follow state or local policy on diversion to the nearest stroke center. [69]
