Stroke Systems of Care

Comprehensive Stroke Centers

Comprehensive stroke centers posses all the resources available at a primary stroke center, but also have additional personnel and resources to facilitate higher level stroke care.  Additional health care specialists such as neurosurgeons, vascular neurologists, and dedicated stroke specialists are often available.  Additional advanced neuroimaging services, such as MRI and cerebral angiography, provide unparalleled imaging information that is valuable for the care of stroke patients.  Additional surgical and endovascular therapies may be available along with a neurologic intensive care unit.  A log of all stroke patients and data points are collected and submitted to the stroke registry. This improves research, which helps develop new protocols that are beneficial for improving stroke care. [1][2][6][12]
