Bronchoconstriction
  • Bronchoconstriction is defined as smooth muscle constriction secondary to different stimuli such as allergens and irritants (allergic and nonallergic)
  • Bronchoconstriction from allergens occurs secondary to the release of mediators and metabolic products from inflammatory cells
  • This constriction can quickly narrow the airway
  • Leads to clinical symptoms (wheezes, shortness of breath, cough)
