- As the patient is being treated with appropriate medications, breath sounds may begin to be heard.
- Wheezes are usually heard during the expiratory phase, which may be prolonged.
- Wheezes heard on exam do NOT always indicate asthma, therefore the exam should continue with an investigation of the associated conditions such as rhinitis and sinusitis.
- Other causes that should be considered include foreign body aspiration.
