Standardization using Common Terminology 
Using common terminology and plain English will help to cohesively define the following at the scene:  organizational functions, incident facilities, resource descriptions and position titles.


  • Organizational functions: Refers to when major functions and functional units within the incident are named and defined.
  • Incident facilities: The various facilities within the incident area that will be used throughout the incident.
  • Resource descriptions and position titles: Major resources, including personnel, facilities, and equipment that will support the incident management activities. [4, 5]
