Effective ICS communications includes 3 key elements:
- Modes: The hardware the system uses to transfer information
- Planning: Planning for the use of available communication resources
- Networks: The process for transferring information internally and externally
Communication plans should include the use of plain text and avoid the use of acronyms or jargon. Radio traffic should be limited to essential traffic and information only. Without clear and concise communication, the effectiveness of the incident command system and coordinating of efforts can be drastically limited. [4, 5]
