Introduction

What is the Incident Command System (ICS)

A disaster can strike anytime, anywhere and sometimes without warning.  A disaster may take the form of a hurricane, an earthquake, a tornado, a flood, fire or hazardous spill, or even an act of terrorism.  An incident is an occurrence or event, which requires a response in order to protect life or property.

The goal of an ICS system is to effectively manage coordinated response efforts in order to ensure the safety of all involved. [1]
