Any of the previously discussed signs should be taken seriously by the EMS provider and treatment options quickly evaluated.  The shortness of breath and difficulty breathing could be caused by the PAVA powder, or secodary to a punctured lung and / or blunt force trauma causing:
  • Pulmonary Contusion
    • A direct bruise to the lung
    • Damage to aveoli causing edema and hemorrhage
    • Patients can have dyspnea, hypoxia, tachypnea, and hemoptysis [11]
