EMS and Patient Restraint

In law enforcement, restraint of a subject can be different than restraint for the EMS provider, however, the same goal is in mind; safety for all.  There are laws that vary from state to state in regards to defining the requirements of EMTs using the appropriate type of and time for restraining patients.  An additional less lethal weapon that may be utilized may be the power of speech and de-escalation techniques.  The other point of concern is the proper restraint of patients for transport after one of the above discussed less lethal weapons has been utilized.
