Carotid Arteries

Carotid arteries begin at the brachiocephalic artery on the patient"s right and from the aorta on the left.  They travel upward and medially along the trachea and split into internal and external carotid arteries near the level of the larynx"s upper border; an important anatomical landmark to note for surgical airways which are discussed later.  [3]
