Objectives

By the end of this lecture, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the anatomy of the normal and difficult airway.
  2. Identify and anticipate patients who are difficult to ventilate and intubate.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of how best to correct airway problems before they are encountered.
  4. Describe the advantages and limitations, as well as indications for use, of alternate airway devices.
  5. List and explain the anatomy and common emergency surgical airway techniques and devices.
  6. Describe airway confirmation devices
