Face-to-face Intubation
The anterior approach can be a common approach for any patient. In this case, your patient may be in a traumatic setting, for example seated upright entrapped in a vehicle. The anterior approach can be utilized when patients are in the supine position as well. This may be seen as the "nursing home" approach. Usually within skilled nursing facilities there are several patients to a room and the beds have large un-removable headboards and square wheels. Approaching the patient from their right side when attempting the face-to-face technique. The technique is also useful for EMS providers that may not have a great deal of upper body strength. | | |
