The Difficult Airway

The SALT was designed as a two-fold device that can function as a BLS mechanical airway (similar to that of an OPA) and as an introducer for an endotracheal tube for blind insertion.  Once inserted the SALT can act as an OPA for bag-mask-ventilations; then the ALS provider can pass the ETT through the center of the SALT at which point it deflects anteriorly into the trachea.
