- Hyperextend the head / neck if no cervical spine precautions are needed
- Locate the cricothyroid ligament
- Make puncture at 90-degree angle
- Aspirate verifying proper placement (aspirate air)
- Change angle of insertion to 60-degrees and advance forward to the level of the stopper
- Remove the stopper
- Hold the needle in place and advance the plastic cannula off of the needle until the flange rests on the neck
- Remove the needle and secure the cannula with the supplied device
- Attach ETCO2 and ensure proper placement with ventilation
