There are limitations to the device that lessen the reliability as compared to waveform capnography. These limitations include:
- Prolonged cardiac arrest " Limited CO2 production
- Device contaminated with acidic substances " Gastric contents, certain arrest medications
- Device clogged with secretions or foreign material
- Caution with any previous BLS ventilations / Mouth-to-mouth [32-35]
