Capnography as we know it is the vital sign of ventilation and provides an enormous amount of information for our intubated and non-intubated patients. This information includes confirmation of proper endotracheal tube placement, measuring the effectiveness of chest compressions and the first indication of a ROSC. Capnography is now viewed as a primary means of confirmation of an advanced airway. Having gone through all of the tools and techniques of obtaining an airway on a difficult / next to impossible airway we need a means to confirm placement and ensure it stays in the correct place.
