  • Tuberculosis is considered the leading cause of death in HIV patients world-wide
  • Tuberculosis is considered an AIDS defining opportunistic infection
  • A study showed that in Thailand, up to 50% of patients that are diagnosed with HIV and TB died during treatment [3]
  • In 2005-2011 World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 1.3 million lives were saved by initiating TB/HIV efforts
  • By 2011, because of this work, it was believed that 48% of patients with known TB and HIV were started on antiretroviral treatment for HIV  [1][2]
