Fatigue
When cells are deprived of sugar, an individual may become tired and irritable.[18] Patients presenting with increased fatigue may not necessarily have a high or low blood glucose level. As a part of a thorough differential diagnosis EMS professionals must rule out all causes for altered mentation. Remember the mnemonic AEIOU-TIPS
- Alcohol (Science has proven this causes altered mentation...)
- Epilepsy (Post-ictal state)
- Insulin (Too High / Too low)
- Overdose (Prescribed / Recreational drugs)
- Underdose (Prescribed / Recreational drugs)
- Trauma / Toxins
- Infection
- Psychosis
- Sepsis / Stroke / Shock
