Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic State
Hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS) is one of two serious metabolic derangements that occur, in patients with diabetes mellitus. It can be a life-threatening emergency characterized by hyperosmolarity, hyperglycemia and dehydration without significant ketoacidosis. HHS is less common than diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). It also differs in the magnitude of dehydration, ketosis, and acidosis.[25] | | | | | | | | |
