It is necessary to procure a history of the immediate episode. If the patient is unable to accurately recount the incident then it is important for the EMS professional to speak with an individual who was with the patient during the episode. Even if the patient does not initially recall the incident, he or she may begin to recall particulars little by little. A S-A-M-P-L-E History should be obtained.
