Gestational Diabetes

Around the 24th week of pregnancy, many women develop what is referred to as, gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes starts when the body is not able to make and use all the insulin it needs for pregnancy. It has been estimated that gestational diabetes affects 2-25% of pregnancies within the United States.  The prevalence varies worldwide due to racial and ethnic differences, and as a result of screening practices. Gestational diabetes rates have also been on the rise within recent years.
