Intranasal Narcan Training for the Prehospital Care Provider

Intravenous vs Intranasal
  • This primarily depends on the type of medication and concentration of the medication.
  • Blood levels were comparable (depending on the medication).
  • Intranasal medications can be administered rapidly.
    • No IV preparation, failed attempts and/or poor access call for intranasal administration.
  • Consider time taken to prepare the patient and IV equipment, find a suitable vein, gain IV access, draw up the medication, and administer.
    • Intranasal medication administration requires preparing the medication and administering. [5]
