Less Lethal Weapon Injuries

Type of Restraints

Always use soft restraints, this includes leather restraints only when they have a soft padding inside.  If police use handcuffs to secure the patient, police must accompany the patient inside the ambulance.  Having an officer follow behind in a vehicle is not a sufficient substitute.  In handcuffing a patient being transported by ambulance, police must handcuff the patient’s hands in the front or to the stretcher, but in no event behind the patient’s back.
