Significant injuries reported in association with electrical weapons included

  • Cutaneous burns – A result of the thermal energy (heat) generated by the current
  • Lacerations – From direct contact / removal of the dart/probe
  • Rhabdomyolysis – A result of intracellular muscle constituents into the circulation from the rapid exertion of the muscles
  • Testicular torsion – Severe trauma can cause this occurrence where the spermatic cord to a testicle twists
  • Ocular injury – Resulting from the dart/probe “missing” the target area
  • Miscarriage – One report of a woman having a spontaneous abortion 7 days after being struck with the Taser® [1, 2, 5, 6, 7]
