What are the Symptoms?

Symptoms for infants and young children may include: (children younger then 12-years-old)

  • Fever > 100.4° F (> 38°) oral, tympanic, or rectal equivalent (close to 100%)
  • Cough, respiratory distress, tachypnea
  • Lethargy, irritability, loss of appetite.
  • Coryza more common in this age group 


Symptoms for older children may include:  (children older then 12-years-old)

  • Fever > 100.4° F (> 38°) oral, tympanic, or rectal equivalent (close to 100%)
  • Cough, respiratory distress, tachypnea, dyspnea, difficulty breathing
  • Loss of appetite, diarrhea, confusion
  • Symptoms are similar to an adult patient
  • Myalgia and headache more common in this age group [3][4]
