How Close is “Close Contact”?
  • A person who has cared for, or lived with a person infected with SARS, or
  • Direct contact with respiratory secretions or body fluids of patients with SARS, or
  • Talking with a SARS patient within 3 feet, or
  • Kissing or hugging, or
  • Sharing eating or drinking utensils, or
  • Directly touching someone
Exclusions:
  • Walking by a person or sitting across a room from someone with SARS for a short time is not considered close contact.[7]
