Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

Surveillance & Reporting
  • The flowchart on the next slide displays the sequence in which information is gathered and disseminated.
  • The process begins with health care providers and their findings after screening patients.
  • Reports are then sent to local and state health officials who conduct further tests and screening.
  • Information then flows to the CDC, who then contacts the WHO.
  • Finally, after applying the newly gathered information to previous knowledge and data, it is applied to form updated case definitions and SARS risk factors that are released to health officials and the community.[7]
