Cardiovascular
Stimulants will affect most organ symptoms. As mentioned previously, the hallmarks of amphetamine intoxication are hypertension and tachycardia. Severe intoxication can cause an acute coronary syndrome, hypertensive crisis, stroke or brain hemorrhage. Taken to the extreme, it can result in cardiovascular collapse and death. [20]
Pulmonary
Intoxication with amphetamines causes an increased respiratory rate. If smoked, most preparations are highly toxic to the lung tissue and can result in acute pulmonary edema (“crack lung”), pneumothorax (collapsed lung), pneumomediastinum (air around the heart), pneumonia and pulmonary hemorrhage.
