Amphetamines
Amphetamines are catecholamine re-uptake inhibitors. In other words, the body cannot reabsorb its own natural stimulants (norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin). This results in a hyperstimulation. There are a variety of amphetamines used legally to treat nasal decongestion, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), weight loss and narcolepsy. Many forms, however, are abused for their stimulant effects. Some common types of amphetamines include:

  • Ephedrine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Ritalin (methylphenidate)
  • Adderall (amphetamine, dextro-amphetamine, levoamphetamine)
  • Bath Salts
  • Ecstasy
