The so-called bath salts (sometimes marketed as “Plant Food”) are a combination of newer synthetic amphetamines designed to be “legal highs”. They have the same effects and risks as other amphetamines. They are packaged with the name “Bath Salts” because they resemble bathing salt products like Epsom salts, but have nothing to do with maintaining personal hygiene. Bath salts are usually sold as a powder being white to off-white in color. They may also be found in a capsule format. Bath salts may also commonly be referred to as recreational designer drugs. They usually are packaged with “not for human consumption,” but are designed to work like other amphetamines. They can be taken orally, snorted, smoked, or injected with the most common form of introduction to the body as being inhaled nasally. [33] [38]
