When compared to inhaled marijuana, ingestion of THC has a delayed onset with many variables affecting time of psychoactive symptoms. Ingested THC will pass through the GI system and is metabolized by the liver, which will undergo first-pass metabolism that will delay symptom release. Unless controlled by a licensed distribution facility the amount of THC within the foods cannot be calculated appropriately. This places the user at risk for toxicity, especially in children if accidentally ingested. [6]
