Side Effects
As a result of the direct effects on the central nervous system opioids can produce the following signs and symptoms:
  • Respiratory depression
  • Constricted pupils
  • Drowsiness
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Itching
  • Nausea and vomiting
Respiratory depression is the usual cause of death in relation to opiate intoxication.
