| Dissociative drugs, such as phencyclidine (PCP), Ketamine, DXM (Dextromethorphan) and Nitrous Oxide are unique in that they affect many different neurotransmitters, and cause a variety of clinical effects. Typically ingested via snorting, oral, intramuscular injection or inhaled.
These drugs have anticholinergic effects causing dry flushed skin and mydriasis (dilated pupils). They stimulate release of dopamine and norepinephrine causing agitation, tachycardia, rigidity, delusional thought, and excitement, similar to stimulant intoxication. |
