Toxicological Emergencies

Summary
There are many different types of drugs of abuse.  Each has its own affect on the body.  Many times the provider will not know which type of drug the patient has taken. Often the patient won't know.  It is important to recognize the effects of the drugs, even if the specific drug is unknown.  Regardless of the substance, the patient can still be treated symptomatically.  Always monitor the vital signs and be vigilant for signs of poor perfusion and respiratory compromise.
