| In pediatric patients, much of the same is true as for adults, including what is needed to change the tracheostomy tube. The same things should be kept at bedside, including blunt scissors, clean gauze, a trach tube that is one size smaller and one the same size and brand, a lubricant that is water-based, which may include Aqualube® or KY Jelly®, tracheostomy tapes and suction catheter. There should be a swivel connector, and if the tube is flat ended, it will require a tracheal tube adaptor. If a tracheostomy tube becomes dislodged the Seldinger technique should be used in case it cannot be easily replaced. (11) | | | | |
