Tracheostomy Tube Management for BLS Providers

Family Issues
Caring for a patient on prolonged mechanical ventilation requires expertise in all aspects of tracheostomy care. Every family is not equipped to provide this support, which is an around the clock commitment. When a patient remains at home, the constraints upon the family are significant. In some cases, there may be resentment, or caregiver fatigue. It is essential for the family to have a good support system with the patient’s medical team, and there are also social services available of which they should be made aware.
