Case Study

Christopher is a 35-year-old paramedic who has no history of any major medical problems. He does have seasonal allergies and food allergies to certain fruits " bananas and kiwis in particular. You are on a call at an elderly patient"s home when Christopher puts on gloves before starting an I.V. He then turns to you and says "something is wrong with me". He is obviously short of breath. Seconds later he develops edema of this lips and tongue and starts to audibly wheeze. You notice hives (urticaria) on Christopher"s face and arms. He is now diaphoretic.
