- Multiple studies have been done
- A study researching salmeterol (Nelson et al. 2006) showed an increase in asthma related deaths compared to placebo [14]
- In a 28-week trial, there were 13 deaths out of 13,176 versus 3 out of 13,176 on the placebo.
- An increased number of severe asthma reactions (Mann et al. 2003) on high doses of formoterol were submitted to the FDA [15]
- These trials caused the FDA to add a warning on all LABA medications
